Funding for coding project as part of EU Code Week

CALL FOR PROPOSALS – Funding for coding projects within the framework of EU Code Week – €7,500 

Application deadline: Aug 31, 2025 

To implement new, innovative coding projects and expand existing initiatives whose goals are closely aligned with the priorities of EU Code Week, there is now an opportunity to apply for funding.  
The Code4Europe consortium, which is responsible for overseeing EU Code Week, has established a funding system to support projects from the grassroots level, with JAA being responsible for networking coding stakeholders in Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, invites applications for funding to support activities in the areas of digital education, coding, and computational thinking. A selected project will receive funding of €7,500. EU Code Week is funded by the European Union. 

Goals 

The aim of this call for proposals is to identify and support grassroots coding projects that align with the mission of EU Code Week to promote coding, computational thinking, and digital skills across Europe.  
The objectives are: 

  • Promoting the development of innovative and scalable coding activities. 

  • Supporting initiatives that integrate coding into educational contexts and promote engagement. 

  • Promoting the involvement of the local community and strengthening cooperation between different actors and interest groups. 

  • Prioritizing projects that close the gender gap and promote diversity in STEM education. 

Details on funding 

Funding of €7,500 will be awarded based on the quality of the applications using the following criteria:  

  • Clarity and comprehensibility of the project proposal 

  • Feasibility 

  • Desired effect 

  • Alignment with the objectives of EU Code Week 

Who can apply? 

Prerequisite: The submitting organization must be based in Albania, Serbia, Montenegro. 
 
Applications can be submitted, for example, by 

  • Schools (through school support associations) 

  • Private organizations and programming clubs; 

  • Libraries and other public institutions (through support associations or non-profit foundations) 

  • Extracurricular learning centers, associations and clubs in the field of coding and digital education 

  • Organizations specializing in technology and algorithmic thinking. 

 

What can be funded: 

  • Licenses for online tools 

  • Learning materials for participants including processing and shipping, e.g. workbooks or hardware 

  • Communication to reach potential participants, e.g., flyers, posters, online marketing 

  • Professional external support to enable an online event, e.g., technical support 

  • Rent for rooms required, for example, for technical infrastructure 

  • Developing and piloting an innovative programming or digital skills activity 

  • Expanding an existing approach to new schools or regions 

  • Promoting community engagement and recognition of digital education 

  • Promoting programming and algorithmic thinking in schools 

  • Engaging underrepresented groups, such as girls, in STEM fields 

  • Incorporating programming into core school subjects 

  • Conducting practical workshops on robotics or programming 

  • Creating educational resources for digital literacy 

  • Hosting a hackathon, coding challenge, or digital skills event 

  • Creating or expanding a local STEM club 

  • Developing teacher training sessions on digital tools 

  • Organizing peer-to-peer learning or mentoring programs in the field of coding/STEM

Exclusion criteria 

The following project ideas are excluded from funding: 

  • Projects that are not developed and implemented in Albania, Serbia, Montenegro. 

  • Political or religious initiatives 

  • Projects that only benefit individuals 

  • Projects that have no content-related connection to EU Code Week 

  • Projects/events that do not serve the common good 

Application process:  

Interested organizations are invited to submit a project proposal by August 31, 2025. Applications must be submitted by this date via info@junior-albania.org  
Each application must include the following: 

  • Project description that clearly explains the project objectives and expected impact 

  • Details on the planned implementation, schedule and required resources 

  • Information about the applicant organization, including relevant experience 

  • Budget plan for the project

Evaluation and selection 

A selection committee consisting of Code Week stakeholders (e.g., Code Week ambassadors, leading teachers, edu coordinators) and representatives of Code Week Hub.

Schedule 

  • Start of the application period: 21.06.2025 

  • Application deadline: Aug 31, 2025 

  • Notification of selected projects: 05 Sep, 2025 

  • Project implementation period: 15 September - 15 December 2025 

  • Report and proof of use of funds: 30 days after the end of the project 

Payment terms 

After signing the funding agreement, the funded non-profit organization receives pre-financing to begin work on the project (70% of the grant amount). 

Payment of the remaining amount: At the end of the project, we will calculate your final grant amount based on the submitted project report and the proof of use of funds. The funded non-profit organization will then receive the remaining amount of the approved funding (maximum 30% of the grant amount).
